Guidelines for presentersThe following guidelines are offered to presenters to support you in maximising the benefit to both you and your audience. |
|
|
Posters The poster
should be equivalent to 2 x A1 or 4 x A2 card of at least 150g in weight,
preferably laminated to be attached to the boards that will be provided
for you. Posters should clearly have visual elements and not consist primarily
of text. Posters may be displayed throughout the conference but there
is a specific time slot from 13.45 – 15.30 on Tuesday when you will be
expected to be available to engage with interested delegates. |
Short papers This year short papers have been allocated 15 minutes for presentations, 10 minutes for questions. There are 5 minutes for change over to allow delegates to move between strands and presenters to set up without detracting from their presentation time. Please respect the timings. Each session will be chaired and the chairs have been asked to use a yellow card to indicate to you that you have 3 minutes remaining, an orange card to indicate 1 minute and to stop you with a red card. Questions sessions will also be kept to time. You have been asked to indicate your AV requirements and it is your responsibility to inform the programme administrator if you wish to make changes to these.

Demonstrations Demonstrations will take place after lunch on Tuesday at the same time as Posters. You will be allocated a PC or internet connection. If you are bringing your own laptop and wish to connect to the internet, you must let us know so that we can give you a copy of our security requirements. You will be allocated a full bay in one of the terraces with a sign to advertise your demonstration. You should be available throughout the session to demonstrate and discuss your material with delegates. |
Research papers Congratulations to those of you who have had a refereed research paper accepted. The same guidelines apply as for the short papers except that you have 40 minutes for your presentation with 15 minutes for questions. The chair of your session will operate to the same strict time-scale showing you yellow and orange at 3 minutes and 1 minute and then stop you with a red card. |
|
Interactive workshop Your session is for one hour and is either in a cell of 12 – 20 computers where delegates try out software or systems, acquire new skills and discuss their views of the experience with you or, if you have requested it, in a classroom with circular layout. Numbers are restricted and delegates will be expected to sign up for Interactive workshops. Delegates will be expecting interaction and active learning from the sessions. |
Panels You will have a 1½ hour session. Your panel leader is responsible for the session. The prime purpose of the panel is discussion and each panel member should give a 5 – 7 minute presentation on a different aspect of the topic. The presentations will be followed by discussion with the audience. These are not joint papers and each contribution should be distinctive, the combination of presentations stimulating debate and discussion.
The lead person of each panel is asked to finish the session on time and introduce the short paper that follows. |
