2002 will be held at St.Peter's campus. This is where you'll
find the Business School and Informatics Centre, where the amazing,
500 workstation floor has to be seen to be believed. |
| St
Peter's Campus is also home to the Prospect building which houses
our state of the art conference facilities. The buildings are
futuristic, full of light and people-friendly. They sum up the
fresh feel of the place. Sitting on the northern bank of the
river Wear, near Sunderland Harbour, St Peter's Campus has won
many awards for its architecture and is the focus of the University's
ambitious expansion programme. |

City of Sunderland
Sunderland
is one of Britain's newest cities, and one of the fastest-growing
in Europe. It gained city status in 1992, but has been reinventing
itself for a decade or more. Around 300,000 people live and
work here, on England's north-east coast. Once the world's
largest shipbuilding port, Sunderland has now attracted new
industries and created a new future for itself as a major
centre of automotive manufacturing.
Today,
more than 60 major companies from a dozen different countries
have a base in Sunderland. Over £1,000 million has been invested.
Sunderland now has a new, diverse and thriving manufacturing
economy, with world-class facilities attracting companies
like Nike and London Electricity to Doxford International
Business Park where
expertise in telematics to exploit the
opportunities of the information age have been developed. This
dynamic, confident approach is reflected across the city.
The
city centre is being transformed by one of the most ambitious
development schemes in the UK. The showpiece Bridges shopping
centre has doubled in size, attracting all the big high street
names, and the city now has a wide range of vibrant leisure
facilities, public parks, office developments and landscaped
business parks.
Sunderland
is a compact city, and most of the places you'll need to visit
are within easy walking distance of the campus. If you do
need to travel further afield you'll find transport links
are excellent.

North-east of England
The
north-east region of England, that's Tyne and Wear, Northumberland,
Durham and Cleveland, offers a world of opportunities and
attractions.

Sunderland
places you at the heart of this wonderful region. It's a compelling
contrast of castles, coastline and countryside, of villages,
market towns and cities - a region with a proud past, an exciting
future and a distinct identity.
Much
of the change of recent years has been down to partnership,
people working together to find innovative solutions and strategies
for galvanising a new city.
The
University plays a key role in these partnerships, not only
in business and industry, but also in the arts, sport and
the wider community.
